Meet Santosh Ahirwar, an Animator with MVVSS under the SuATI project in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, India. Partnering with Access Agriculture and the ERA team, Santosh is a passionate advocate for natural farming, biodiversity, and agroecology.
By organizing smart projector screenings in local Gram Panchayats and Anganwadis, Santosh teaches farmers traditional, cost-effective methods like indigenous seed treatments using cow urine and preparing organic biopesticides.
Key highlights from Santosh’s interview:
• Saving Dying Crops: When local farmer Ram Kisan Vishwakarma’s cucumber crops were failing due to harsh chemical pesticides, Santosh showed him a video on organic growth promoters. Applying this knowledge saved the harvest entirely!
• Rural Entrepreneurship: Santosh has turned the smart projector into a business tool, renting it out for government awareness campaigns (like de-addiction and water conservation) and planning to use it for local advertising.
• Overcoming Challenges: Navigating the logistical hurdles of screening videos in villages, such as finding dark spaces and proper screens during daylight.
• Reviving Traditional Medicine: Bringing forgotten Ayurvedic treatments back to the community after attending a recent Dairy Mate training, alongside introducing modern equipment like milking machines to local dairy farmers.
A special thanks to GIZ and Access Agriculture for empowering grassroots educators like Santosh to strengthen rural knowledge and livelihoods.
