Digital sovereignty praxis course - Lessons learnt

Digital Sovereignty Praxis course - Session 6 (April 22nd, 2026)

Locally managed digital solutions do exist and can be locally developped, self-hosting is a real solution.

Organizations are playing an essential role:

  • In carry in community tech assessment
  • In developing sovereign tools
  • In framing these efforts within a wider struggle for food sovereignty

In an agroecology and technology sovereignty approach, softwares should be shaped to fit existing organization functioning, values, ways of knowing, production systems, collaborative system,…Digital sovereignty can be « less digitalization ».

The adoption of sovereign tools is not easy, it’s a progressive social process.

Elements that can help:

•Address specific farm-related tasks that require digital support (not everything)

Simple tools working offline

Customized to local language, digital literacy and needs

Sharing amongst organizations on their experiences, tool feedback, protocols, standards

Digital literacy and understanding of data rigths (by and for social movement and allies)

•Mutual support and solidarity à  building collective power
