The Kenyan Peasant League and Farm Hack US are two grassroots organizations exploring path to gain more sovereignty in their use of digital softwares and hardwares.
They mention:
- Progressive awareness of the lack of control on their data
- Switch to Signal for gaining privacy
- Seeting up their own opensource platform and softwares, to fit the existing functioning
- Difficulties for adopting new tools, progressive path
- Farm Hack also set up physical hardwares, hosted by community members, creating web servers,...
- Every move comes with trade offs, Technology assessment is essential to understand if the move to new tools is worth it.
- We do not have to do it alone. We can share, document our experience and reinforce each other
