Meet Swmdwn Baro, a dedicated Entrepreneur for Rural Access (ERA) from a village near the Bhutan border in Assam, India. Working with the Gramya Vikas Manch (GVM) and supported by HDFC Bank, Swmdwn uses a smart projector from Access Agriculture to bring vital knowledge and awareness to his community.
By traveling to local villages and screening training videos, Swmdwn is leading a powerful movement toward healthier farming practices, better livestock management, and important social change. Key Impacts & Success Stories:
• Promoting Natural Farming: Swmdwn actively educates farmers on the dangers of chemical farming, helping them transition to organic and natural methods so their families can eat healthier, cleaner food.
• Modernizing Animal Husbandry: He has helped farmers shift away from traditional, unhygienic methods of tying up pigs. Thanks to the videos, farmers—including Swmdwn himself—are now raising pigs scientifically by building proper, sanitized pens. He has also adopted vermicomposting to boost his own farming profits.
• Driving Social Change: Beyond agriculture, Swmdwn uses his smart projector to screen important documentaries that educate the community about the legal and social consequences of child marriage, helping to protect vulnerable youth in the region.
Future Goals: Equipped with his new communication skills and the respect of his community, Swmdwn plans to expand his outreach. His goal is to reach even more villages and use the power of video to easily explain the benefits of organic farming to those who are still unfamiliar with it.
A special thank you to GIZ, Access Agriculture, and Gramya Vikas Manch for giving Swmdwn the opportunity to become an ERA and uplift his community!
