Meet Pushpendra Singh Lodhi, a progressive farmer and community educator from Shahgarh, Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh, India. Partnering with the ERA team and MVVSS, Pushpendra uses a smart projector to screen educational videos on organic agriculture, dairy farming, and multi-cropping, driving incredible change in his community.
Key highlights from Pushpendra’s journey:
• Multi-Cropping for Resilience: Planting up to five crops together (like soybean, maize, and pigeon pea/arhar) to minimize weather risks and ensure steady harvests.
• Inspiring Dairy Entrepreneurs: After watching a video, local farmer Nanne Bhai scaled his dairy production from just 5 liters to 1,500 liters in 6 months, boosting the local economy.
• Slashing Chemical Costs: Farmer Amar Singh transitioned 10 acres to organic farming, saving ₹30,000 on chemical fertilizers (DAP) and investing it back into organic cow dung.
• Personal Transformation: Pushpendra himself adopted natural farming through these videos, dropping his own input costs to just 10% of what they used to be!
• Livestock Health: Implementing new Ayurvedic treatments for cattle diseases (like deworming and fever) learned during his recent dairy training. Despite the logistical challenge of finding dark rooms for daytime video screenings, Pushpendra remains dedicated to empowering farmers, women, and youth. A huge thank you to GIZ, Access Agriculture, and the ERA team for making these grassroots innovations possible.
