"Now that we have followed this new rule, we are able to run our household well... I'm also able to hire day labourers to carry on the work." - Indira Boro Meet Indira Boro, a hardworking farmer from Balijuri village in Kamrup, Assam, India. Before watching agricultural training videos and receiving training from Grameen Sahara, Indira struggled with low profits and believed that successful farming required spending a lot of money. By applying new, innovative techniques, she has completely transformed her approach:

• Efficient Land Use: She shifted from labour-intensive ploughing to cultivating on raised beds, allowing her to grow a variety of crops like bananas, pumpkins, and eggplants much more efficiently on a smaller plot of land.

• Zero-Cost Pest Control: Indira learned how to create her own natural fertilizers and bio-pesticides, such as "Brahmastra" and "Neemastra," right at home. By boiling a mixture of cow urine, manure, and local leaves (papaya, mango, neem, and guava), she now protects her crops from pests without spending a single rupee on chemicals.

• Better Livestock Management: After losing pigs in the past by tying them up with ropes, she has invested in bricks and is currently building a proper, safe barn for her livestock.

Thanks to the valuable knowledge provided by Access Agriculture, GIZ, and Grameen Sahara, Indira's farm is now thriving. She easily supports her family and generates enough income to hire day labourers to assist with her growing operations!
