Food Plant Solutions Rotary Action Group (FPS) creates educational publications that help people understand the connection between plant selection and nutrition, and empowers them to grow a range of highly nutritious plants with differing seasonal requirements and maturities. Food Plant Solutions is a self-sustainable solution that empowers people to make informed choices about what plants to grow that will nutritiously feed their family. The key to saving lives is understanding the nutritional value of food and empowering people with this information. This video shows how a drilling company partnered with Food Plant Solutions so that the community could learn about the importance of their local food plants through workshops. F

The Fresh Foods for Families workshop is designed to help families to grow, nurture, harvest and prepare vegetables for nutritious meals. So, while food sustainability is the primary reason for conducting these workshops, as additional outcomes community bonding and multiculturalism are celebrated. There is an Events Guideline, which walks the coordinators through the process, enabling it to be easily conducted by anyone. Feedback from a workshop held last year in Tasmania speaks volumes; “This is the best workshop I have been to, and if we had more in Tasmania, we wouldn’t be going without food.”

Science ̶ and technological innovations ̶ have often ignored local knowledge and even obstructed its dissemination. Born in 1885 as the son of an Austrian forest superintendent, Viktor Schauberger guiding principle for experimentation was his intuition, which was based on his own observations of nature, his reading of old philosophers and poets, as well as on the deep knowledge of the mountain men who had spent their lives in the forests. As the story of Schauberger has shown, technological breakthroughs are often the result of holistic thinking that incorporates ideas from different disciplines and people, including artists, philosophers, farmers, foresters and engineers.
