A rice farmer from Bicol, Philippines, shares the benefits he has gained from using airtight plastic bags to store his seeds and grains safely. He compares his current practice of using Super bags with his previous practice, and the problems he encountered then. He also demonstrates how he uses the super bag and takes care of it so that it can be used again.

The super bag protects stored rice from moisture, pests, rats, and keeps rice seeds viable. The Superbag was developed by the International Rice Research Institute's (IRRI; http://irri.org) postharvest experts in collaboration with GrainPro Inc. Philippines. The Superbag and larger airtight storage systems have been extensively tested and verified with farmers and seed processors in Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, and Myanmar. In the Philippines, the Superbags are now available in Pacifica Agrivet retail stores nationwide.

This farmer is part of a national postharvest learning alliance facilitated by IRRI with support from the Asian Development Bank and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The farmer's story was captured using a participatory video approach introduced by Digital Green ( http://www.digitalgreen.org). Guided by facilitators, the farmer himself created the storyboard. The farmer's interview in this video was not scripted and was based on his acquired knowledge of the technology introduced.
