Two farmers from South Sulawesi, Indonesia, share the benefits that their farmers' groups have experienced after adopting alternate wetting and drying (AWD), a water-saving technology that allows the rice field to be left dry for a few days then reflooded. They demonstrate how they prepare and use a field water tube to monitor and measure the water depth in their field. They use this tube as a guide to let them know when to irrigate their field.

These farmers were part of participatory activities done by the Irrigated Rice Research Consortium (IRRC: http://irri.org/index.php?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&layout=category&t… ) of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI; http://irri.org ) in a collaborative project Improving rice productivity in South and Southeast Sulawesi funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research.

The farmers' stories were captured using a participatory video approach introduced by Digital Green (http://www.digitalgreen.org ). Guided by a local facilitator, the farmers themselves created the storyboard. The farmers' interviews in this video were not scripted and were based on their acquired knowledge of the technologies introduced.
